What’s the best thing about your hometown of Oakland?
“It’s close to everything. I think that’s a generalization of California, but you’ve got the water on one side, in the winter you’ve got the snow about an hour away, you’ve got the desert close by. Everything’s a drive away, I think that’s pretty neat.”
Who’s the best player you’ve ever played against or with?
“That’s a tough question. When it comes to basketball, I’d say Brian Bulcke; that’s a lie, but it’s pretty funny if you’ve ever seen him play basketball.”
So would basketball be your go-to sport of choice, outside of football?
“No, curling would probably be my go-to sport outside of football. I’m still working on starting, but that’s next on my list.”
Outside of football, who’s your favourite athlete to watch?
“I’m obviously a Steph Curry fan. Anyone that can shoot like that, and the level of skill that it takes to be able to do what he does. He’s a Golden State guy, from East Oakland, Steph Curry.”
What kind of stuff do you do when you’re away from football?
“I’m an artist, so I like to do art, I like to build furniture and spend time with my kids. KJ, it’s Bakari Jr., but we call him KJ, and Khari.”
If you weren’t a football player, what would you be doing?
“I’d either be an artist or a firefighter. I like the team atmosphere, I like giving back to the community. My uncle was a firefighter and I have another good friend that’s a firefighter.”
Are you a musical artist or visual artist?
“I’m a visual artist, I paint and draw.”
On the musical side of things, do you have a favourite album of all time?
“Most people won’t know this unless you’re from California from the 90’s, but DJ Quick Rhythm-al-ism, some G-Funk, and some old-school West Coast rap, R&B.”
