Hamilton City Council Approves Plan To Relocate Canadian Football Hall Of Fame To Tim Hortons Field

The Hamilton City Council officially ratified a plan on Friday that will relocate the core of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame to Tim Hortons Field in 2016. The plan, a collaborative effort of the Canadian Football League, Canadian Football Hall of Fame, and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Football Club with the support of staff at Hamilton City Hall, was approved and put forward on Monday by the Council’s General Issues Committee.
“As part of the Tiger-Cats on-going commitment to delivering the best live viewing experience in Canadian sports, we are very happy for what this shared vision will do to enrich the game day experience for Ticats fans at Tim Hortons Field,” said Scott Mitchell, Chief Executive Officer for the organization. “The history of football in Hamilton is unsurpassed in Canada, and this is a tremendous opportunity to showcase that history while also reinvigorating the Hall and amplifying its exposure to football fans across the country.”

Historical artifacts and displays will be accessible to visitors at Tim Hortons Field on Ticats game days and at other times when the stadium is open to the public. The Hall’s collection of busts honouring enshrined members will be relocated to an enclosed studio at the north end of the stadium. The busts will be among five major feature areas within the stadium that will profile the Hall of Fame. Other items will be made available for traveling exhibitions across the country. Hamilton will be recognized as the Canadian Football Hall of Fame’s permanent foundation and home, and the CFL’s annual Hall of Fame Game will be played in Hamilton through at least the 2020 season. The CFL is assuming responsibility for future operation of the Hall, including member selection, expenses and capital expenditures.
