On Thursday night, the Tiger-Cats will celebrate Angelo Mosca’s legendary career by retiring his #68. Mosca’s number retirement, which will take place at halftime of Thursday’s game, will make #68 just the second retired number in Ticats history.
In anticipation of this celebration, here are some of the most interesting numbers from Mosca’s storied career.
24,000 – #68 jersey towels and flags will be handed out to fans in attendance at Thursday night’s game. The first 24,000 fans will receive either a flag or a towel upon entry into the stadium.
350 – Mosca was selected 350th overall in the 1959 NFL Draft by Philadelphia Eagles.
15 – Mosca spent 15 seasons in the CFL, all but 2.5 of which were as a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
201 – career games played over the course of his CFL career. Mosca’s 168 games played for the Tiger-Cats ranks him 12th in Ticats team history.
5 – Mosca was a 5-time East Division All-Star and 2-time CFL All-Star in his 15-year career.
2 – Both seasons that Angelo was named a CFL All-Star, he also received recognition as the East Division Lineman of the Year and runner-up for the CFL Lineman of the Year.
9 – Over the course of his 15 seasons in the CFL, Mosca played in 9 Grey Cups, winning five of them. His nine appearances in the Canadian championship is a CFL record, tied with six other players.
1987 – Mosca was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame as part of the 1987 induction class.
May 18, 2012 – The date that Mosca became the first CFL player to be inducted into the Gridiron Greats Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame recognizes their inductees not only for their on-field contributions to the game, but also their post-football accomplishments.
February 2, 1986 – The date of “Moscamania”, a Hamilton NWA wrestling card that was hosted and organized by Mosca, drawing 12,000 in attendance.
$7700 – One year after using his cane to hit former BC Lions quarterback Joe Kapp at the 2011 CFL Alumni Luncheon, Mosca auctioned the cane off at the 2012 luncheon. The proceeds of the auction were donated to the alumni’s support program for struggling former players.
