The Canadian Football League announced today that Hamilton Tiger-Cats quarterback Zach Collaros and defensive end Eric Norwood have been named two of the Shaw CFL Top Performers of the Month for August.
Collaros and Norwood helped lead the Tiger-Cats to a 4-1 record in the month of August and a share of first place in the East Division.
Collaros completed 71 percent of his passes in August for 1,417 yards and 14 touchdowns, while throwing only three interceptions in five games. For his efforts, the 27-year-old native of Steubenville, Ohio, earned Shaw CFL Top performer of the Week honours twice in Weeks 8 and 9. Through 10 weeks, Collaros leads the league in passing yards with 2,632, and has thrown 18 majors with a quarterback efficiency rating of 110.9.
Norwood becomes the second defensive player to be named a Shaw CFL Top Performer of the Month. In August, Norwood registered 18 tackles and five sacks in five games. He also recovered two fumbles for touchdowns, including a 106-yard return which was the third longest fumble recovery for a touchdown in CFL history and longest in Hamilton’s franchise history. With his two fumble recovery touchdowns, the 27-year-old native of Acworth, Georgia, is only one touchdown shy of the league record. Norwood currently leads the Tiger-Cats in sacks and was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer in Week 8.
Edmonton’s Derel Walker, second in voting, joins Collaros (first) and Norwood (third) as this month’s Shaw CFL Top Performers. The three players were chosen by a panel of judges who independently send their selections to the CFL head office. The panel includes former Canadian Football League players Matt Dunigan and Duane Forde of TSN and Pierre Vercheval of RDS.
