1. How many points will both teams score, combined? Over or under 51.5? (Question #1)
In three games this season, the Tiger-Cats and Argonauts averaged 56 points per game; however, much has changed since the two teams last played.
Since the last time the East Division rivals clashed, the Argos per-game point production has dropped from 25.2 points per game to 23, while the Ticats have produced just 19.7 points per game, down from their 35.6 average in the first half of the season. Both teams have allowed under 25.5 points per game defensively down the stretch, and the Ticats have held opponents to under 20 points in three of the last five games. In fact, outside of the 44-point game from the Redblacks in the season finale, the Ticats defence has allowed just 20 points per game since their last game against the Argos.
With winter weather setting in and playoff football in full effect, I’m predicting the lowest point total between the two teams this season and taking the under here.
Prediction: Under
2. Who will lead the Tiger-Cats in receiving yards? A) Luke Tasker B) Terrell Sinkfield C) Tiquan Underwood D) Bakari Grant E) Andy Fantuz F) Other (Question #18)
He received the extra targets last week, and I’m predicting that the added attention turns into production for Tiquan Underwood this week. Luke Tasker is generally a sure bet, but the Argonauts have not been quiet about the added significance that they place on covering the Ticats leading receiver. With Tasker likely to see more attention from the defence and Sinkfield receiving just three targets in last week’s game, I’m predicting a big game for Underwood.
Prediction: C) Tiquan Underwood
3. How many pass completions will Argos quarterback Ricky Ray record? Over or under 22.5? (Question #17)
Ricky Ray is almost a lock to be a future hall-of-fame quarterback, but he’ll face some stiff competition against the Ticats pass defence this week. Hamilton has allowed exactly 22.6 completions per game, but only because opponents have attempted a league-high average of 36.8 pass attempts per game against them. The Argos have the league’s highest pass-run ratio in the league, passing on 70.8% of their offensive plays. Despite the stingy pass defence they’ve played all season, the numbers are heavily in the Argos favour and I’m predicting yet another pass-heavy day from the double blue.
Prediction: Over
4. What will the longest pass completion be? Over or under 42.5 yards? (Question #4)
Ricky Ray’s arm remains a question mark within the Argos offence, and he’s never been known as a quarterback who airs out the ball frequently. Meanwhile, the Ticats are likely to rely on high-percentage throws with their fourth starting quarterback this season. While I expect both offences to be able to move the ball on Sunday, I don’t anticipate many chunk plays from either side. Unless someone is able to break free for some serious yards after the catch, I don’t see either team gaining more than 43 yards on a single passing play.
Prediction: Under
5. What will be the final score outcome?
A) Ticats +8, B) Ticats +4, C) Even (3 or less by either team) D) Argos +4, E) Argos +8 (Question #20)
Not a single one of the three games between the two teams this year has been decided by under eight points, with the Ticats winning by margins of 16, 30 and 8. With some mitigating factors closing the gap between the two teams, I’d expect a much closer game on Sunday. This game could truly go either way, I’ll be predicting a three-point margin in the Argos’ third visit to Tim Hortons Field this season.
Prediction: C) Even
