The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced a trio of player signings today, including national fullback Carl-Olivier Prime to a two-year contract, national offensive lineman Mathieu Girard to a contract extension through 2018, and international defensive end Troy Davis to a contract extension through 2017.
Prime, 26, suited up in all 18 regular season games and two playoff games for the Tiger-Cats in 2015, registering three special teams tackles and two kickoff returns for 13 yards. Over his three-year career, the 6-1, 255-pound native of Laval, Quebec has played in 44 career CFL regular season games, all with the Tiger-Cats, and seven playoff games, including the 101st and 102nd Grey Cups. The converted fullback was selected by Hamilton in the third round, 19th overall, in the 2013 CFL Draft after four seasons (2009-12) as a linebacker at Wagner College.
Girard, 24, appeared in all 18 regular season games and two playoff games for the Tiger-Cats in his rookie CFL season in 2015. The 6-3, 295-pound native of Montreal, Quebec filled in at numerous positions on the offensive line including long snapper on field goal attempts. He was selected by the Tiger-Cats in the sixth round, 52nd overall, in the 2014 CFL Draft. Converting to an offensive lineman before turning pro, Girard played five seasons (2010-14) at the University of Montreal as a defensive tackle. He posted 78 tackles, 20 quarterback sacks, 23 tackles for a loss, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries with the Carabins en route to a Vanier Cup championship in his final season in 2014.
Davis, 24, originally signed with the Tiger-Cats on September 27, 2015 and made three special teams tackles in his CFL debut in the East Final versus the Ottawa Redblacks. The 6-2, 251-pound native of Lawrenceville, Georgia spent time with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets over the last two seasons, including suiting up in four games as an outside linebacker with the Jets in 2013 and recording five tackles. Prior to turning pro, he spent four years at The University of Central Florida where he accumulated 18.5 sacks and 125 tackles in 50 career games.
