Tiger-cats Sign Wide Receiver Aprile

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Tuesday that the team has re-signed national free agent wide receiver Giovanni Aprile.

Aprile, 26, appeared in 13 games and started twice for the Tiger-Cats in 2015, registering two special teams tackles. He also played in Hamilton’s two playoff games last season. In his rookie CFL season in 2014, the Toronto, Ontario native suited up in three regular season games and the Eastern Final for the Ticats.

Aprile was originally acquired by the Tiger-Cats from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on January 28, 2014 in exchange for defensive back Matt Bucknor. The 6-3, 220-pound receiver was selected by the Blue Bombers in the third round, 16th overall, in the 2012 CFL Draft out of Queens University. At Queens, he played 29 games over four seasons (2010-13), accumulating 120 receptions for 2,155 yards and 15 touchdowns, 37 carries for 262 yards and two rushing touchdowns, and a total of 1,041 return yards with three additional touchdowns.
