The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Monday that the team has signed three international free agents, including defensive linemen Delano Johnson and Terry Redden, and linebacker Charles Clay.
Johnson, 28, had one defensive tackle and one forced fumble in two games with the Toronto Argonauts last season. In 12 career CFL games with the Argos since 2014, the 6-4, 270-pound defensive lineman has posted 15 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, one sack, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. After five seasons at Bowie State from 2007 to 2011, Johnson was signed as an undrafted free agent by the NFL’s Houston Texans in 2012. The native of Baltimore, Maryland spent the 2012 season on the Texans practice roster and attended the team’s training camp in 2013.
Redden, 22, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the NFL’s Carolina Panthers on May 8, 2015. The 6-2, 295-pound native of Memphis, Tennessee attended training camp and played in four preseason games for the Panthers before being released on September 5. Redden played in 46 games with 31 starts at defensive tackle in four seasons at the University of Memphis. He registered 97 career tackles, including 19 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks with the Tigers.
Clay, 24, spent time on the Ottawa Redblacks practice roster in 2014 and attended the team’s training camp last season. The 5-10, 205-pound native of Hilo, Hawaii also attended training camp and played three preseason games with the NFL’s Green Bay Packers in 2014. Clay suited up at Southern Methodist University (2009-10) and the University of Hawaii (2011-13) at both receiver and defensive back before turning pro. At Hawaii, he registered 113 total tackles, eight pass break ups, one sack, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries during his three-year stint.
