Training Camp Recap: Day 1

Still in withdrawal of the long six month offseason, some of the fans that came out to watch opening day of training camp had no desire to go home. Many sticking around in the stands conversing amongst themselves, others huddling around the gates to the field.
It’s here, a new season.
A new season raises a lot of questions and some of those may have been answered earlier today. Zach Collaros continues his rehab from his injury and looks to be close to returning to the field.
As for the quarterback situation, there will be no clear answer until later in training camp regarding who will be starting when the season kicks off in Toronto on June 23. The battle between Jeff Matthews and Jeremiah Masoli will get more and more competitive heading through the next several days leading up to Hamilton’s first preseason matchup against the Argonauts at BMO Field on June 11.
Perhaps playing off the weather, the defence came out hot. Mike Daly and fellow defensive back, Quinton Pointer, both paired up for interceptions during 12-on-12 drills. Fans enjoyed the loud excitement brought forth by the defence, which was showcased throughout practice.
All storylines aside, coaches and players all shared the same feeling knowing that football was back for new season. The excitement was evident as today was the first time returning players were together in six months, while newcomers were also stirred into the mix.
With their first preseason game less than two weeks away, that excitement will quickly be set aside as position battles heat up and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats look to have a successful season in 2016.
