Training Camp Recap: Day 3

Heading into the third day of training camp, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats were excited to announce the contract extension of East Division Most Outstanding Defensive Player and All-Star, Simoni Lawrence. The often-vocal leader of the defence will be anchoring the linebacker group through the 2017 season. Coach Austin referred to Lawrence as, “exactly the kind of player you want on your team.” Lawrence is entering his fourth year with Hamilton and has been a constant ambassador throughout the community.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats Head Coach, Kent Austin, continues to be satisfied with the effort his players are putting forth on the third day of training camp.

Coach Austin jokingly said, “I’m absolutely having zero impact on stuff like that. Not a good sign,” on his attempt at trying to ice the kickers Brett Maher and Cody Mandell nearing the end of practice as they lined up for 53-yard field goal attempts. Austin addressed his satisfaction in the kickers on day three going on to say, “it’s pretty encouraging,” as both kickers made their kicks with some room to spare in terms of distance.
Training camp being held at McMaster University’s Ron Joyce Stadium has presented an interesting obstacle for the kickers to overcome. The past few days have brought a crosswind on the field, something that’s uncommon at Tim Hortons field which brings more of an “in your face” wind as Coach Austin described, continuing on to say, “we have to see if they’re willing to adjust, how well they adjust and if they have the courage to adjust.”
The Ticats will be back on the field tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. but will have a short day wrapping up practice around 11 a.m.
