Training Camp Recap: Day 5

It was Throwback Thursday at training camp today as Ticats legend, Angelo Mosca made an appearance along the sidelines at Ron Joyce Stadium on the campus of McMaster University.
Out of a sign of respect, Simoni Lawrence lead a group of players towards Mosca to shake heads and chat during their break between practices.
Mosca stayed for most of practice as the team took time between drills to make their way to the sidelines to greet the five-time Grey Cup champion who wreaked havoc on opposing offences during his tenure as a Tiger-Cat during his hall of fame career.
Practice was ramped up from the beginning with the entire squad getting involved in a kick return drill. Simoni Lawrence showed off his theatrical personality during the drill, which was capped off by a return made by defensive back Cleshawn Page, who high stepped his way on route to the end zone.
As the offence faced off against the defence, it may have been the kickers that were turning heads as Cody Mandell and Brett Maher were trading punts. The two kickers could be seen standing on opposite sidelines impressively hitting 60-yard kicks across the field to each other.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats receivers have been having an exceptional training camp and it continued today. On one particular play, Jeremiah Masoli scanned through his reads, stepped up into the pocket and delivered the ball 40-yards down field for a touchdown to a tightly covered Andy Fantuz. The play showcased Fantuz’s ability to use his body position to his advantage as well as still being able to make the difficult catches.
Chad Owens has proven to be coming along well and picking up the playbook fairly quick and it’s shown as he has been lining up in the slot aside Terrence Toliver on the weak side as 12-on-12 team drills get underway. He has quickly shown the quarterbacks he still can be a reliable target amongst a receiving group that brings ample amounts of depth for the Tiger-Cats offence.
Things seem to be coming together well for the Head Coach, Kent Austin and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Coach Austin continues to appreciate the effort the players have been putting into practice.
The Ticats will be back out for practice tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. at Ron Joyce Stadium.
