Down but not out with Collaros
Hamilton should be pretty happy that they have their franchise quarterback back. The Ticats’ quarterback threw for a staggering 439 yards against Calgary while completing 34-of-53 pass attempts. It was perhaps Collaros’ ability to still maintain composure when Hamilton trailed the Stamps that helped the Ticats make a late fourth quarter push. Collaros managed to piece together several drives to keep Calgary’s Bo Levi Mitchell and the offence off the field, which was a key to keeping the game close and winning the time of possession battle. Since Collaros has returned to the Tiger-Cats line-up, he’s completed 81-of-123 pass attempts and has already eclipsed the thousand-yard mark, passing for 1,151 yards. Perhaps the most interesting stat has been his pass efficiency in throwing ten touchdowns and only one interception, which he threw in his first game back in BC.
Play stands Tol’
If anyone has enjoyed the return of Zach Collaros, Terrence Toliver would certainly be on the top of that list. Toliver has totalled an incredible 380 yards on 19 catches and four touchdowns since the Ticats starting pivot made his 2016 debut three weeks ago. With those numbers, the tall wide out has averaged 20 yards per catch. Those numbers did nothing but bolster against the Stamps as Toliver made nine catches for 183 yards and snagged two touchdown passes. His first score of the game came in the first quarter as he drew double coverage along the sideline. Collaros threw a perfectly placed ball as Toliver hauled in the 26-yard touchdown. Toliver’s second touchdown came early in the fourth quarter. Hamilton’s tall man went into a post route before breaking it off towards the sideline, losing Calgary’s defender in the process before making the grab and stepping across the goal line.
Ticats grab reins on Calgary rush
Hamilton did well to eliminate the impact of one of the top running backs in the league on Sunday night. The Tiger-Cats defence limited Stamps’ running back Jerome Messam to just 3.1 yards per rush; his lowest since the opening week of the CFL season. Simoni Lawrence led the Hamilton defence with nine tackles as he sits tied for seventh on the leagues tackles list. Larry Dean also had a busy evening, tallying six tackles on the night.
