MNP By The Numbers: Midseason Edition

The stage was set for the Labour Day Classic against the Toronto Argonauts and the Tiger-Cats gave us all something to cheer about. Hamilton pieced together yet another dramatic come from behind victory to sink the Argos and claim the season series with still one game to go against the rivals from across the lake. Following the win, Ticats.ca’s Ethan Ready took some time to look beyond the box score and dig deep into the stats sheet for this week’s edition of the MNP By The Numbers.
0 – Salt in the wound, the number in the loss column on Labour Day against Toronto since Zach Collaros came to the dark side. Not a bad decision on his part.
1 – Since his return in Week 8, Zach Collaros ranks number one most yards thrown compared to all other CFL quarterbacks during that same time. In only four games, Collaros has completed 109 of 158 passing attempts for 1,510 yards. His 14 passing touchdowns also leads the league during that same period.
3 – Collaros ranks third in the league in passing touchdowns in just four games played. Coincidentally, it’s also the number East Division starting quarterbacks that he’s thrown more passes for scores than.
4 – Just past the halfway point of the season, the Tiger-Cats have four receivers on pace for over a thousand yards receiving. The leader of the foursome, Luke Tasker has made 66 receptions for 776 yards and four touchdowns. It didn’t take long at all for Chad Owens to get familiar with the offence. He’s gone on to have 659 yards receiving off of 49 catches, five of which have been for touchdowns. Six-foot-five Terrence Toliver stormed passed secondary’s after returning from injury in Week 5. Toliver leads the team with six touchdown catches while hauling in 34 catches for 606 yards. To round out the four, national product Andy Fantuz has made 55 receptions for 605 yards and five touchdowns.
23 – Hamilton leads the league in passing touchdowns. With Jeremiah Masoli’s performance prior to Collaros’ return, the Ticats’ have thrown four more touchdowns than the second place Ottawa Redblacks. It’s also the number of consecutive passes that Masoli completed to set a new CFL record back in Week 5.
31 – Collaros leads the league in scoring percentage when leading the offensive attack. In the 51 offensive drives that Collaros has been behind centre for, he has had 31% of those drives result in a touchdown.
50 – Emmanuel Davis made Tim Horton’s Field shake when he returned an interception off of a Ricky Ray pass 55 yards for a touchdown. Since joining the Ticats in 2013, Davis has returned 50% of his interceptions for touchdowns (8 int’s, 4 TD’s).
1,436 – Brandon Banks leads the league in total kick return yardage. Speedy B also leads the league in two out of the three return categories with 853 yards on kick off returns and 249 yards on returns off of missed field goals.
24,512 – The attendance on Labour Day set the largest stadium crowd at Tim Horton’s Field history since it’s opening on September 1, 2014.
