The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Monday that the football club has acquired international offensive lineman Xavier Fulton and national defensive end Justin Capicciotti from the Saskatchewan Roughriders in exchange for national defensive tackle Linden Gaydosh, international wide receiver Tommy Streeter, and fourth and seventh round selections in the 2017 CFL Draft.
Fulton, 30, started in 75 games over five seasons (2012-15) with Saskatchewan. The 6-4, 300-pound offensive tackle also spent time with the National Football League’s Washington Redskins, San Francisco 49ers and Indianapolis Colts in 2010 and the United Football League’s Virginia Destroyers in 2011. Prior to turning pro, the native of Flossmoor, Illinois, played four seasons (2005-08) at the University of Illinois. Fulton recorded 13 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one pass defended and 0.5 sacks at defensive end in 2005 before switching to offensive tackle.
Capicciotti, 26, registered 24 defensive tackles, three tackles for loss and two quarterback sacks in 14 games with Saskatchewan in 2016. In 71 career CFL games with the Edmonton Eskimos (2012-13), Ottawa Redblacks (2014-15) and Roughriders, the 6-3, 235-pound native of Toronto, Ontario, has recorded 132 defensive tackles, 12 special teams tackles, nine tackles for loss, 27 quarterback sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and three pass knock downs. Capicciotti, a 2015 CFL East Division All-Star with the Redblacks, played at Simon Fraser University, where he was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2011 after finishing the season with 10 sacks.
