2016 Tiger-cats Team Awards Announced

The Canadian Football League unveiled Wednesday the Hamilton Tiger-Cats winners for the 2016 Shaw CFL Awards:
MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER/CANADIAN: WR Andy Fantuz
Fantuz, 32, has registered 101 receptions for 1,059 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games this season. The 6-4, 218-pound wide receiver became the first player in Tiger-Cats history to record 100 receptions in a single season on October 21 at Ottawa. Through 19 Weeks, the native of Chatham, Ontario, ranks third in CFL receptions (101) and fourth in CFL receiving targets (128).
MOST OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE PLAYER: DE John Chick
Chick, 33, has started all 17 games for the Tiger-Cats this season, registering 38 defensive tackles, four tackles for loss, 14 quarterback sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and five pass knock downs. The 6-4, 253-pound defensive end was named a Shaw CFL Top Performer (2nd Place) for Week 18. The native of Gillette, Wyoming, currently ranks second in CFL sacks (14) and is tied for third in forced fumbles (4).
MOST OUTSTANDING OFFENSIVE LINEMAN: OL Ryan Bomben
Bomben, 29, has started all 17 games at right guard for the Tiger-Cats this season. The 6-4, 295-pound native of Burlington, Ontario, suited up in his 100^th career CFL game on October 21 at Ottawa. Last season, Bomben signed a three-year contract extension with the Tiger-Cats on October 15, 2015.
MOST OUTSTANDING SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER: WR/KR Brandon Banks
Banks, 28, has played 15 games at wide receiver and kick returner for the Tiger-Cats this season and leads the CFL with three total kick return touchdowns. The 5-7, 157-pound native of Garner, North Carolina, has recorded 57 punt returns for 569 yards with one touchdown, 53 kickoff returns for 1,205 yards and three missed field goals for 249 yards with two touchdowns. Banks currently ranks first in the league in missed field goal return yards, second in kickoff return yards and fifth in punt return yards. The Kansas State product has 3,007 career kickoff return yards and needs just six yards to surpass Wally Zatylny (3,012 yards) for the franchise lead in that category.
MOST OUTSTANDING ROOKIE: OL Brandon Revenberg
Revenberg, 23, has played in all 17 games, starting five times at left guard and once at right tackle, for the Tiger-Cats in his first CFL season. The 6-4, 300-pound native of Essex, Ontario, was selected by the Tiger-Cats in the first round, third overall, in the 2016 CFL Draft. He made his CFL debut on June 23 at Toronto and first-career start on September 16 versus Montreal.
The award recipients were selected by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC) and CFL head coaches.
In this first ballot, FRC representatives from each CFL city as well as the respective head coach submitted votes for six categories. Voters were asked to select players from their local CFL club who, through the excellence of their on-field performances, best represent the awards’ titles – Most Outstanding Player, Most Outstanding Canadian Player, Most Outstanding Defensive Player, Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, Most Outstanding Rookie, and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player.
The East and West Division winners for the 2016 Shaw CFL Awards will be announced on Thursday, November 12.
The 2016 Shaw CFL Awards will be handed out on Thursday, November 24 in Toronto, Ontario.
