By The Numbers: Looking Back At The Regular Season

Week 20 of the Canadian Football League season has wrapped up and thus brings us playoff football. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats staked claim to the Eastern Semi-Final and will be hosting the Edmonton Eskimos at Tim Hortons Field on Nov. 13. Edmonton will be crossing over from the West after having posted a better record than the third place team in the East. After 18 games, Ticats.ca’s Ethan Ready swept through a season’s worth of stat sheets and box scores to compile this week’s edition of MNP By The Numbers.
5.5 – CJ Gable led the East Division in average yards per rush among backs with a minimum of 100 carries.
7 – Ticats’ kicker Brett Maher led the CFL in successful field goal attempts from 50 yards and beyond.
9 – Tim Hortons Field was sold out for all nine home games the Tiger-Cats hosted this season. It also marked the second complete season the Ticats managed to completely sell-out for. Tim Hortons Field has sold out all 26 home games since opening on Labour Day of 2014.
13 – The Tiger-Cats scored the highest number of rushing touchdowns in the East Division in 2016. Ticats quarterback Jeremiah Masoli scored eight of his own.
17 – Emanuel Davis led the way for the Ticats in picking off passes with five.  Hamilton topped the East Division with 17 total interceptions.
34 – The number of touchdown passes the Hamilton Tiger-Cats had in 2016, the most in the CFL.
50 – The Ticats defensive unit ranked at the top of the East and third overall in the league, behind only Calgary and BC, when it came to hauling down quarterbacks. The Tiger-Cats had a 12-sack improvement from their total number in 2015 (38).
507 – Hamilton rounded out the season as the highest scoring team in the East Division, scoring 21 more points than the second ranked Ottawa Redblacks.
1,059 – Andy Fantuz led all Canadian receivers in receiving yards during the 2016 season. He would also lead Canadians in receptions with 101 catches.
1,245 – Hamilton’s Brandon Banks led the CFL’s East Division in kickoff return yards.
5,834 – Whether it was Zach Collaros or Jeremiah Masoli, the Tiger-Cats had no problem passing the ball and finishing the season as the third ranked team in total passing yards.
216,012 – The number of total fans that have walked through the gates of Tim Hortons Field on game days this year. With the second season of complete sell-outs at home, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats average attendance was 24,001 per home game in 2016.
