Community program has reached nearly 80,000 children in Hamilton and surrounding area since 2010
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats 2017 BeFit Program presented by Summer Fresh was officially launched on Monday at Regina Mundi Catholic Elementary School in Hamilton. Tiger-Cats offensive lineman Mike Filer, defensive end Adrian Tracy, defensive back Craig Butler, linebackers Terrell Davis and Nick Shortill, and mascot Stripes were all on hand to help kick off BeFit’s eighth season promoting healthy and active lifestyles for youth.
This year, the program will culminate with the inaugural BeFit Day at Tim Hortons Field on Tuesday, May 16, bringing thousands of junior school aged students together to learn about the importance of physical activity and a healthy diet. Star Ticats players will lead interactive on-field programming, there will be appearances by mascots and cheerleaders who will lead a group dance, and each attendee will receive a voucher courtesy of Summer Fresh to attend the 2017 preseason home game on June 16 when the Tiger-Cats host the Toronto Argonauts.
The BeFit Program presented by Summer Fresh has delivered hundreds of player and coaches appearances at schools and community centres in Hamilton and the surrounding region since 2010, touching the lives of nearly 80,000 youth in the process. The program, which supports the team’s community mission of promoting healthy, active, and empowered youth, has grown annually since its inception and will engage 36% more Hamilton schools in 2017.
