The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Wednesday that the football club has signed international free agent defensive back Terrence Frederick to a practice roster agreement.
Frederick, 27, started nine games at cornerback with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last season, registering 33 defensive tackles, three tackles for loss, one interception, two pass break ups and one quarterback sack. Before his stint in Winnipeg, the 5-9, 196-pound native of Katy, Texas, played five games in the National Football League, including two with the New York Giants in 2012 and three starts with the New Orleans Saints in 2014, collecting 19 combined tackles overall. He was originally selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the seventh round, 246th overall, in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Prior to turning pro, Frederick appeared in 50 games with 45 starts at Texas A&M University, posting 205 career tackles, 19 tackles for loss, four interceptions, 29 pass break ups and six quarterback sacks. He was a two-time honourable mention All-Big 12 selection in 2010 and 2011.
