Scenarios with Mike Daly

We presented Ticats DB Mike Daly with a few scenarios Hamiltonians often face, with the goal of finding out his go-to spots in Hamilton. This is ‘Scenarios’ with Mike Daly.

N: You’re trying to cool off. You get into your car and rip over to Wild Water Works but the place is jammed. Where are you headed during the heat wave?
M: I’m going to go take a swim in the Hamilton Harbour. I’m going to dive on in, and maybe if I’m thirsty I’ll drink a little bit of water to cool myself down [laughter].

N: You go on Facebook and see that you haven’t changed your Facebook profile picture in over a year and a half. You immediately run and get into your car. Where are you taking the picture?
M: I’m going to go up on the escarpment, probably the Dundas overlook, and do one of those cool sitting-on-the-edge-looking-into-the-distance-thinking-about-something photos. Hopefully I don’t fall.

N: You’re hanging out on the field with your boys and you get a notification on your phone. It’s your anniversary and you forgot! You only have one chance to make this right. Where are you taking her?
M: I live in the west end so I just won’t take her anywhere. I’ll just drive as far east as I possibly can. Try to stay away and blow the day off right there. Actually though, I live in Westdale, so I’m probably going to Bean Bar – that’s my go to. Then the movies I guess. I’ve been with her for seven years, so we’re not doing anything crazy. Hey, maybe we’ll go to like 77 after or something like that [laughter].

N: Your best friend from Philly comes to town and the whole trip he’s just going off about Philly Cheesesteaks. You turn to him and say, “Philly Cheese Steaks? You’ve got to try Hamilton’s  _______.”
M: Ooooh. You’ve got to try Hamilton’s….. What is Hamilton’s dish? I would say you’ve got to try Hamilton’s James Street North, and you gotta go to Salt Lick. And probably get a brisket. That’d be the way to go I think.

N: It’s the offseason and Hamilton is covered in a layer of white. You’re trying to take advantage of it. Where are you headed?
M: Heading to the escarpment, and going right down on a snowboard [laughter]. That’s what I’m doing.

N: It’s a cold Hamilton winter and your car won’t start. Looks like you’re ordering in tonight. When you pick up the phone, what place do you call?
M: Lava Pizza. For sure. I had it all through university and that’s my go-to spot. Anytime I have to order food, it’s Lava pizza.

N: You’re scrolling through Instagram and a hot new place pops up. What is it?
M: Bar Sazerac. Only because my roommates buddy opened it up and it’s a pretty good place. That’s probably the place I’m going, on James Street North. Or Nique, I had a fun time at Nique when we did the Tiger-Cats fashion show there. That was pretty cool too.

N: It’s the bye week and all the guys from the team are looking to do a team building exercise. What do they do?
M: We’re going paintballing. Upper James, at that outdoor paintball area so we can shoot each other, and blow off some steam.

N: Your best friend is in town and you want to impress him by showing him how fun Hamilton is. You’ve only got one night to sell him on Hamilton. Where do you take him?
M: To a Tiger-Cats game. For sure. It’s the best show in town.
