Q & A with Courtney Stephen

Q. Would you rather have a head the size of a watermelon or the size of a tennis ball?
A. Well shoot. I already have too much hair as it is. I haven’t really been able to wear fitted hats like I want to for the last couple years. Well, I go with the small head so I can get my style back man.
Q. You have the best performance of your career in the Grey Cup game. Who’s the first person that calls you, and what do you talk about?
A. That’s definitely my wife. And what do we talk about? Probably talk about where we go on our vacation, because when you win that Grey Cup, you get that Grey Cup cheque. You’re flying out of that cold stadium, because you know, CFL is played outdoors, so we going somewhere hot.
Q. If I gave you a couple thousand dollars, let’s call it a Grey Cup bonus, to go on vacation, where do you go?
A. We got a plan already. I’m one step ahead of you. We’re going to Hawaii. I’m going to spend ten days in Hawaii, and then when I get back from there, shoot, we could do Greece and go to Santorini. I like it out there. I’ve never been, but it looks beautiful.
Q. What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever eaten?
A. Pork, peameal bacon, Canadian bacon. Disgusting. Absolutely gross. I hate it. It’s the reason why I stopped eating pork.
Q. Would you rather have zero fingers, or ten extra fingers?
A. Ten extra, all day. If you had no fingers then it’s going to be tough to get around, so I’ll go with the twenty fingers.
Q. What’s the best gift you’ve ever given your wife and what was the occasion?
A. Let me think about this one carefully. Umm, I want to say something sentimental. But realistically, she would probably tell you it’s a pair of shoes or something like that cause you know, my wife loves shoes. So we’ll just say shoes/vacations. And the occasion is always her birthday. We went to the Bahamas for her birthday and that was a lot of fun. The Bahamas was probably the best vacation we had so far.
Q. What’s the best non-football job you’ve ever had?
A. When I was 16, my first job was at Wild Water Kingdom being Hugo the Hippo. I mean, it wasn’t the greatest, but it was definitely stress free, and all you had to do was walk around and say “Hey, I’m Hugo,” and then take pictures with three-year olds.
Q. The worst?
A. I worked in a paint factory one time, just closing paint cans and putting them in a box. Wheww. Eight hours of that will definitely make you get your education man.
Q. Assuming reincarnation is a thing, and that you could choose what you would be reincarnated as, what would you choose?
A. Hmmm. [turns to Jay Langa]. What would you come back as? [Langa: A lion]. That’s so stereotypical! I think I’m coming back as a flat screen TV. Because man everybody loves a good flat screen, you know what I’m saying. You can be a fly on the wall, and you’re going to hear all kinds of great conversations. You get to watch all the sporting events. You’re right there in the mix, in the middle of it man, getting all the attention.
