Ross Scheuerman is a versatile player on the football field. He is a multi-dimensional back with a strong ground game, a receiver’s hands, and the ability to aid in the pass block. But Scheuerman’s sporting resume doesn’t end with football, as the running back is a formidable golfing talent as well. Scheuerman is a true dual threat, within football, and without.
Q. Have you gone golfing in Hamilton yet?
A. Oh yeah, I’ve been out there a lot this season. I think probably a dozen times so far.
Q. What’s the best course you’ve played on?
A. I played at Royal Niagara. I really liked that course when we played a round there. Then we played at King’s Forest, and that was a pretty nice little course.
Q. Have you golfed with any teammates?
A. I played with Logan Kilgore. He’s my roommate, so we’ve gone every time so far. Then I played with Zach [Collaros] and Andy [Fantuz]. Luke [Tasker] always plays too. So there’s a core group of us guys that always play. It can get pretty competitive out there. All these guys are great competitors and that doesn’t stop when we step on the golf course.
Q. Who’s the best?
A. Ah man, that’s tough. Right now I’d say it’s probably me or Luke [Tasker]. You know what, definitely me. Luke might say otherwise, but I let my game do the talking.
Q. What’s the best round you’ve shot this season?
A. This season my best round was an 85 at Royal Niagara. I’ve done better than that before, but I just haven’t made it happen yet this season.
Q. How often in the off-season are you on the course?
A. That depends on the weather mostly. I’m from New Jersey, so as long as the weather’s alright I’ll be out there playing. Before I came up here, I was probably playing once a week. You know what, I was playing at least once a week, but once the weather gets good in the Northeast I can be out there way more often than that.
Q. How does Hamilton golf compare to New Jersey?
A. It’s not that much different honestly. It really just depends on the course you’re playing. There’s a lot of elevation change on the courses where I’m from. A lot more elevation change than on the courses up here, but overall it’s pretty similar. The biggest thing is that the weather is pretty similar.
Q. What’s the best club in your bag?
A. Oh man. That’s a tough question. Recently, it’s been my wedges. Like 52 and 60 degrees. Those have been pretty on point for me so far this season. I don’t know for how long though. They could stop working at any time though.
Q. What club do you never reach for?
A. Oooh, I don’t know. I don’t reach for a wood that much. My three wood pretty much never leaves the bag. I’m usually pretty good off the tee with the driver so I don’t really have to use it. My driver is one of the best parts of my game. Also, did I mention my wedges have been on point? [laughter].
