Shamawd Chambers Q&A

Q. What is your earliest football memory?

A. Maybe my first day of practice in grade six. Going over to my best friend’s house who got me into football. Saxon Lindsey and his dad, and being all ready and in my equipment before I even got to the car because I didn’t know what I was doing. And the excitement in his face saying that I looked good. It was a tough year though ‘cause I played outside linebacker and I was pretty sh***y. Hahaha.

Q. Was there a moment when you realized you could be a professional?
A. It was kind of a dream in high school, but I knew if I got to university, I’d be a pro. As soon as I got into university I knew I was gonna be a pro.

Q. Would you rather play a summer football game in a full snow suit or a bathrobe?
A. Haha, uhh, do I have a jock underneath? Or there’s nothing under?

Q. Nothing under.
A. Probably a snow suit. I’d be alright in a snow suit. Either way it doesn’t really matter to me. I’ll play in whatever.

Q. If you were to start a charity, what cause would it support?
A. Probably like equal rights, or a Big Brother company. Something like that to help kids, troubled kids. Maybe a Big Brother program for kids who have a lot of problems at home.

Q. If you could experience any moment in sports movie history, which moment would it be, and which character would you play?
A. You remember The Sixth Man? When he hit that half-court shot at the end of the game? It was with Marlon Wayans and his brother passes away. I think that would be a pretty sick moment, to hit a buzzer beater in the NCAA final. That’d be unbelievable.

Q. Last time you went to the movies, what movie did you see, who did you go with?
A. I don’t remember the last time I went to the movies; I’m not a movie guy really… I went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy 2 with one of my cousins.

Q. If the Grey Cup were played in a stadium outside of Canada, which stadium would you want it to be played in?
A. Definitely somewhere warm, or in a dome. Maybe in Atlanta because they got a dome. Or Miami, or Houston because those are really nice cities. Or even Los Angeles, that would be pretty sick in the Coliseum.

Q. If I gave you one million dollars on the condition that you had to use it by five o’clock today, how would you use it?
A. Me and Simoni would do everything with it. I’d go straight downtown. I’d go buy a car, probably – I don’t want to spend half of it right away – I’d probably try to get a Ghost [Rolls Royce] or a really nice Mercedes, then we’d go to Gucci, Louis Vuitton, all that. I’d gear us all up, me and him, and then after that we’d go to Cactus Club and spend the rest there [laughter].
