This Friday, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-1) will come home to the cozy confines of Tim Hortons Field as they take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1-1) in Week Three action. Coming off a successful road trip in Alberta in which Hamilton left with an even record, they now look to keep the ball rolling. Here are the three keys to this weeks game:
Establish a Home Field Advantage
Coming back home after two weeks on the road is not only a refreshing change of pace but, also provides a chance for the Tiger-Cats to develop a home-field advantage.
Since taking over during the midway mark of the 2017 season, June Jones has emphasized the importance of winning in Hamilton, “You have got to win” said Jones “It’s got to become an attitude and an infection thing where you don’t lose at home if you want to be a champion.”
Keep Streveler in the Pocket
With 128 rushing yards on the season, Winnipeg Quarterback, Chris Streveler, has proven to be a dominant rushing threat in his first two CFL games.
Sitting 82 yards behind the number one spot, Jones has made note of Streveler’s rushing ability “He is faster than what I thought he was” said Jones. “After the second game, you could see he was explosive. We’re going to have to take the run away from him” he concluded.
Rushing for any number above what he has previously set may be a tall order for Streveler this week. Going up against a Hamilton defence that has only given up 194 yards on the turf.
Limit Second Down Conversions
When asked about the success Winnipeg has found, Coach June Jones said: “Obviously they’re doing the right things on the field but, they’re doing the right things in the coaching booth too.”
Though Winnipeg’s coaching staff has gotten the accolades Jones deems they deserve, the Tiger-Cats defence led by defensive co-ordinator Jerry Glanville will have his own coaching staff put their players in the position to succeed.
