Noting earlier in the week that this game would not come by easy, the Tiger-Cats fall short of tieing a season series with the Roughriders. Here is what we saw:
Plug and Play
Coming off an outing on the defensive side of the ball in Saskatchewan, Frankie Williams played tonight’s game exclusively as a returner.
Highlighting the game with a 98-yard punt return touchdown in the second quarter, Williams gave Hamiltonians another glimpse of what he is capable of on the return.
Displaying just how much of a threat he is in the preseason against the Toronto Argonauts, Williams once again proved that if given space, he will make teams pay. Recording just under 100 return yards and scoring one of the Ticats two touchdowns, Willaims showed just what he can offer this special teams; lightning speed and quick feet.
Jalen Saunders
Gruelling, tough, and downright tasking are words that have come to define a matchup with the Roughriders but, that didn’t seem to bother Ticats receiver, Jalen Saunders. Averaging 13.4 yards per catch against the Riders, Jalen was Masoli’s go-to man when it was time to move the chains. Now tied for 3rd in the CFL in receptions with 27 on the year, Saunder’s unrivalled ability to get open was put on display again this week.
Daly Does It
Watching over the Roughriders offence and springing into action when need be, Tiger-Cats safety Mike Daly had another standout game.
Recording six tackles on the night against the Riders, Daly now finds himself continuing to add to an already career-high number. Defending passes while also taking on solo and team tackles, Daly has come into his on while playing free safety. Since securing the starting free safety position coming out of training camp, the former McMaster product has met expectations head on this season and now stepping into his first starting position with the team since 2016, Daly has come into his own while playing in Jerry Glanville’s defence.
