Depth Assessment: Defensive Line

LAST SEASON
In 2018 the Ticats gave up the fewest rushing yards per game (101.6) in the East Division. With most of the key personnel returning for this season, and the addition of a few high profile free agents, the Hamilton Ticats defensive line looks like a force to be reckoned with heading into the 2019 CFL season.

TED LAURENT
 Laurent has been a fixture in the middle of the defensive line since he got to Hamilton in 2014. Over that span he has played 78 games for the Ticats, registering 105 tackles and 32 sacks. As for last year, Laurent played 16 games had 20 tackles and sacked the quarterback eight times. He’ll be back again in 2019, locking down the defensive tackle spot in Hamilton.

DYLAN WYNN
 Wynn signed with the Ticats earlier this month after spending the last two seasons in Toronto. With the Argos, Wynn played 26 games and registered 64 tackles and was a part of the 2017 Grey Cup winning team. Among the internationals in camp, Wynn’s CFL experience likely gives him a leg up to start alongside Ted Laurent in the centre of the defensive line.

JA’GARED DAVIS
Davis spent the last three seasons in Calgary where he was a beast for the Stampeders. Playing in 45 games Davis had 123 tackles, including 59 last season. He also sacked the quarterback 23 times and had three interceptions. Davis won a grey cup last season and will look to bring that championship pedigree east, when he lines up at defensive end for the Ticats.

ADRIAN TRACY
Tracy is entering his fifth season in the CFL, spending them all with the Ticats. Last year, Tracy played and started 11 games at defensive end for Hamilton. He registered 20 tackles and two sacks in 2018.

JAMAAL WESTERMAN
 Westerman is at his first Ticats training camp this season after being acquired in a trade from Montreal halfway through last season. In Hamilton, Westerman played eight games, and made 10 tackles. He totaled 29 tackles and three sacks over 13 games with both the Alouettes and the Ticats last season.

 As for the rest  of the defensive line, Julian Howsare , Connor McGough, Justin Vaughn  and Brett Wade are all returning players from last season who are battling for the remaining roster spots.
