Duke Williams Looks To Bolster Tiger-cats Offence In 2023

As Hamilton prepares to host the 110th Grey Cup on November 19th, 2023, the team has made moves in free agency to assemble a roster capable of bringing The Hammer its first Championship in 24 years.

In addition to the signing of quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell, Hamilton has expanded their receiving corps with the addition 0f CFL All-Star receiver Duke Williams.

Williams brings 43 games of CFL experience to Hamilton, having caught 180 passes for 3,059 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was a CFL All-Star in 2018, finishing fourth in receptions (88) and leading the league in both receiving yards (1,579) and touchdown receptions (11).

In 2019, Williams spent time with the Buffalo Bills—highlighted by his game-winning touchdown reception to defeat the Tennessee Titans 14-7 on October 6th, 2019. During his first three NFL games, he caught six of the seven passes thrown his way (85.7%). Against the New York Jets on December 29th, 2019, he led the Bills in both receptions (six) and receiving yards (108), averaging 18.0 yards per-reception against a defence that finished the season ranked Top-10 in the NFL in yards per-reception surrendered. In the postseason against the Houston Texans on January 4th, 2020, he caught four passes for 49 yards. In total, Williams ended the year with 16 receptions for 215 yards and a touchdown, making the most out of his opportunities.

At 6-3, 225–his vertical leaping ability will provide Mitchell with an imposing red zone threat target. Williams has also excelled at catching passes in the middle of the field, which will open up vertical opportunities for veteran teammate Tim White and the rest of the Tiger-Cats receiving group.

Ticats Offensive Coordinator Tommy Condell has done a masterful job tailoring Hamilton’s offence to the strengths of his players.

When you combine veteran stars like White with the additions of Mitchell and Williams among others—the Ticats offence has the potential to be one of the most explosive units in the CFL this season.
