Tiger-cats Fall To Argos 32-14

The Argos capitalized off of Mitchell’s two red zone interceptions, scoring 14 points off of the turnovers.

Matthew Shiltz shined in relief of Mitchell, completing 13 of 14 (92.9%) passes for 115 yards (10.5 YPA), one touchdown and zero interceptions—but it was too little, too late.

Duke Williams led the Ticats with 102 receiving yards. Terry Godwin II hauled in a spectacular one-handed grab. Tyler Ternowski caught a highlight-reel late fourth quarter touchdown. There were bright spots to be found, but the offence simply failed to establish rhythm early and as a result, played catch-up for the remainder of the game.

Four Ticats notched four or more defensive tackles (Tunde Adeleke with six, Chris Edwards with five, Richard Leonard with five, Dexter Lawson Jr. with four and Jameer Thurman with four).

If there were a silver lining to be found, it’s that a team with many new additions faced the hardest schedule in the league to open up the season and still provided glimpses of their ultimate potential.

After falling behind to the Blue Bombers in Week 1, the team rallied to out-score Winnipeg down the stretch 27-10. This game did not see the same late push of dominance, but it did see Shiltz step in to deliver a nearly flawless fourth quarter.

While 0-2 is not the way Head Coach Orlondo Steinauer wanted to start the season, the Ticats will learn from these two games and convert that experience into knowledge.

The journey to the 110th Grey Cup is marathon, not a sprint.

The team has been on the road for three of the last four weeks dating back to the preseason. They defeated the Argos in Hamilton before hitting the road for three consecutive weeks.

This Friday, the Ticats return to The Hammer.

The Tiger-Cats will face the Alouettes in Week 3 on Sunday June 23rd at 7:30 PM.
