Duke Williams, Tim White: CFL’s Top-2 Receiving Leaders

Through Week 3, the CFL’s Top-2 leaders in receiving yards are both Tiger-Cats.

Last week against the Alouettes, White caught seven passes for 143 yards and Williams caught five passes for 102 yards.

Quarterback Matthew Shiltz passed for 345 yards in his first start of the season. If you combine Shiltz’ 2023 passing total (463) with Bo Levi Mitchell’s (361), the Ticats’ 824 passing yards would come close to the league’s leader, Trevor Harris (867).

Williams is coming off back-to-back 100-yard performances, displaying the same versatility and play-making ability he showed with the Buffalo Bills in 2019.

During his first three NFL games, Williams caught six of the seven passes thrown his way (85.7%). He hauled in a game-winning touchdown reception to defeat the Tennessee Titans 14-7 (10/6/19). Against the New York Jets (12/29/19), he led the Bills in both receptions (six) and receiving yards (108), averaging 18.0 yards per-reception against a defence that finished the season ranked Top-10 in the NFL in yards per-reception surrendered. In the postseason against the Houston Texans (1/4/20), he caught four passes for 49 yards. In total, Williams ended the year with 16 receptions for 215 yards and a touchdown, making the most out of his opportunities.

Pairing a dynamic, physical threat like Williams with the CFL’s 2022 leader in receptions, Tim White, is a combination that’s expected to continue to give defences headaches as the season rolls along.
