Football Ontario U16 In Final Of Eastern Challenge

Football Ontario’s U16 men’s team is off to the final of the Eastern Challenge this Saturday in Sackville, New Brunswick after their 27-7 win over team Nova Scotia.

Members of the Ontario team received $15,000 in scholarships from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for this season to help with the various costs associated with football season. In total, 21 players received bursaries from the fund.

“Thank you to our Hamilton Ticats family for being great teammates. This year the Ticats generously gifted our U16 Team Ontario Men’s Tackle program $15,000. ” Said JT Tsui, Director of Sport, Football Ontario. “This gift created an additional 21 Play It Forward scholarships which directly covered our student-athletes team fees. This is just another example of the Ticats commitment to creating a greater sense of community with Football Ontario. I am enthused to see how our partnership continues to unfold moving forward.”

Football Ontario’s connection to the Tiger-Cats runs deeper than the scholarships and the official partnership announced earlier this year. The U16 team is coached by former Tiger-Cat Kamau Peterson who spent 11 seasons in the Canadian Football League, including two in the black & gold (2005-06).

Peterson’s club will be back on the field on Saturday at the Mount Allison University, when they take on Team Quebec with the trophy on the line. Kick off is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET at Alumni Field.
