Ticats eye fourth win in six games as club honours Flutie

HAMILTON — The last time the Ticats faced the Elks, Hamilton walked away with a dominant 37-29 win in Edmonton.

This Thursday night, the two teams will square off for the second time this season, this time at Tim Horton’s Field.

The Ticats will look to bounce back from a 27-14 loss to the Montreal Alouettes. They’ll also look to flesh out a new identity on offence after the team and Coach Tommy Condell mutually agreed to part ways on August 7th.  Senior Assistant Coach Scott Milanovich will take over the club’s play calling duties.

Despite the changes, the Ticats have won three of their last five games and a win over the 0-9 Elks would push them right back into the thick of playoff contention.

As the team approaches mid-season, a number of players on the roster have risen through CFL rankings to stand out amongst the league’s best through Week Nine.

• First in yards after the catch (James Butler, 240)

• First in kickoff return average, min. ten returns (Tyreik McAllister, 28.6)

• First in special teams tackles (Carthell Flowers-Lloyd, 17)

• Second in rushing touchdowns (James Butler, 4)

• Third in defensive tackles (Jameer Thurman, 48)

• Third in combined yards (Tyreik McAllister, 891)

• Third in made-percentage (Marc Liegghio, 94.7%)

• Fourth in pass knockdowns (Richard Leonard, 4)

• Fifth in yards per catch, min. 15 receptions (Tim White, 16.1)

If the team needed any additional motivation, they’ll get it as two-time Grey Cup Champion and CFL Hall of Famer Darren Flutie will be at Tim Hortons Field Thursday night to be added to the team’s Wall of Honour.

In 1999, Flutie hauled in 84 passes for 1,155 yards and seven touchdowns in-route to helping The Hammer win the 87th Grey Cup. He was dominant on the Championship stage, catching six passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns.
