The Hamilton Tiger-Cats return to Hamilton Stadium on Friday night looking to build momentum after earning their first win of the season, a convincing victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Week 2.

Let Bo Levi Mitchell and the Passing Attack Cook

Hamilton’s passing game has looked dangerous through the opening two weeks, and the Lions arrive after surrendering 417 passing yards and three touchdowns to Saskatchewan quarterback Trevor Harris in their season opener.

Bo Levi Mitchell has an arsenal of playmakers at his disposal, including Kiondré Smith, Kenny Lawler and Keric Wheatfall. Smith has emerged as one of the CFL’s most productive receivers early in the season, averaging 83.5 receiving yards per game.

Establish Larry Rountree III Early

After being held in check during Week 1, Larry Rountree III responded with a breakout performance against Winnipeg, rushing for 124 yards on 23 carries.

A productive ground game will be critical against a Lions defence focused on slowing Hamilton’s aerial attack. If Rountree can consistently move the chains and keep the offence ahead of schedule, it opens up play-action opportunities and creates more favourable matchups for Mitchell and the receiving corps.

Balance was a major factor in Hamilton’s first win of the season, and the Tiger-Cats will look for more of the same on Friday night.

Control the Clock

Few quarterbacks are more dangerous when given opportunities than BC’s Nathan Rourke. The best way to limit his impact is by keeping him on the sideline.

Through two weeks, Hamilton ranks among the CFL’s leaders in time of possession, averaging 32:45 per game. Sustained drives, efficient execution on second down and a strong running game will all be important factors as the Tiger-Cats aim to dictate the pace.

If Hamilton can control possession and force BC to play from behind, it will put the Black and Gold in a strong position to secure back-to-back victories.
